Web Design in Lincolnshire: How We Build Websites That Work
What We Mean by Good Web Design
Good web design is not about making something that looks impressive in a screenshot. It is about making something that works for the person using it, loads quickly on whatever device they are carrying, and is structured so that search engines can read it without guessing.
Most websites fall short on at least one of those things. A site can be visually polished and still be slow. It can be fast and still be structurally confusing. It can rank for something and still convert nobody. Good design holds all of it together.
On this page you will find our thinking on the key components of web design: what they are, why they matter, and what to look for when evaluating whether a site is genuinely well built. If you are already past the reading stage and want to talk about a project, see our web design service page instead.

Worth knowing
Speed Is Not a Nice-to-Have. It Is a Ranking Signal
Google's Core Web Vitals have been a ranking factor since 2021. The three metrics it tracks (Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift, and Interaction to Next Paint) measure how a page actually feels to a real visitor on a real device. A site that passes on a desktop fibre connection but fails on a mid-range phone on 4G will underperform in search.
The typical WordPress site built on a page-builder starts at a disadvantage. Plugin stacks, unoptimised images, and render-blocking scripts make it structurally difficult to achieve good scores. That is not an argument against WordPress in every case, but it is the reason we build on a modern static stack by default.
